Ricki is a 1-year old, 18-pound, small terrier mix who came to Homeward Bound as a stray and will now be looking for her forever home. It has taken a while for Ricki to warm up to shelter staff but she has come a long way since she first stepped her tiny paws into the shelter. She reacts to people out of fear and the animal care staff  have been working to desensitize her to new people.

Ricki needs a person who is experienced with dogs, their body language and someone who’s willing to continue working with Ricki to help her overcome her fears with proper positive reinforcement. Once Ricki feels comfortable with a person, she loves being around you for cuddles and playtime. She walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. Ricki would be best as the only pet in the home.

Diamond in the Ruff dogs are selected because of special ownership requirements.  These dogs have quirks, needs, dislikes, and/or habits that require up-front commitments from their new owner to give the dog the utmost care, patience and training to ensure that the new relationship has the best chance of working.  To assist with the transition, Homeward Bound will provide consultation and in-depth individual sessions with the new owner and dog that will be conducted by our contracted dog trainer, Jill Halstead.
