Orion is a 2-year old, 65-pound German Shorthair Pointer/Husky mix. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and has no known medical conditions.

Orion is a trained sled dog whose owner passed away. Many of the sled dogs also owned went to other sled dog owners to continue the dogs’ training for sled pulling use, and some dogs went to private homes. The adjustment from a working dog to a house dog can be challenging for both dog and new owner.

Orion’s new owner reports that he is a high-energy dog that needs more enrichment, training, and a new purpose to direct his energy and enthusiasm toward than they can give him. He is a sweet, loving dog who requires more time and human energy than they had realized. He is happy to snuggle up with you, and seeks attention and affection. Orion is a beautiful, blue-eyed bundle of energy.

The play style for this energetic young dog includes just about anything! He chases, plays with balls and Frisbees, chews stuffed toys, learns new tricks for treats, and excels at tug-a-war. Orion is crate-trained and house-broken.

Orion is living with other dogs. He is fine with the older dog, but doesn’t understand boundaries with the younger dog and they have been kept separate. He has snapped at the cats in the home and might do best not living with them.

Young children’s loudness and movements scare Orion. He will try to play with older children but is still using his mouth too much as puppy nips. He needs to be taught and supervised until he learns that children and anyone else are not to be used as his personal chew toys.

His current owner feels that Orion needs structure and continued training to help him get used to an indoor home environment, and a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. He didn’t take to being a sled dog as much as his former owner had wished and sledding shouldn’t be a goal in a new home. A home where he has a work purpose to exercise his mind would also be a great scenario for this lovely dog.

If you have questions or want to make an appointment to meet Orion, please contact Seneca at the contact information above.
