Molly is a 55-pound, 1.5 year old spayed female German Shepherd/Coonhound mix. She is well-trained and knows 10+ basic obedience commands. She is crate trained and currently spends nights in her crate. Molly gets along very well with other dogs in an open environment such as her home, someone else’s home, or the dog park.
She thrives in the company of people and other animals. Molly does well around dog-savvy cats. She does not demonstrate prey drive toward cats if they are not dog-savvy, just shows lots of curiosity and some chasing. Children (ages 5-10) have been in Molly’s life regularly.
Molly’s main struggles are a result of being under socialized as a puppy up until about 6 months of age. She pulls hard on a leash, and is very reactive to other dogs and people when leashed herself. Because Molly is part hound, she barks a lot.
It is so important to know that Molly needs daily off-leash exercise. Leash walks are not sufficient. She would thrive with dog park visits 4-5 times a week. She also requires continued training for off-leash recall.
Molly has the makings of a great dog and would be well-suited for a family, as long as she is provided with the exercise and mental stimulation to help control her energy.
